Forming sheetmetal

Hello,
First time here, but the helping hand would be great, if there is a way to do this.

Okay,I have the following flat made, what i want to do is be able to form it as it looks in the formed_1 and formed_2 pictures. But, i want to be able to flatten it back out again.

I want above to look like this:

I have tried form die and reference, always end up with some extra material on the side where the angle is. Is there a way to do this. the second pic was made by taking a solid and hacking away at it to get the curves.

Thanks, ahead if there is anything out there.

Ogama,

Thanks, Right now the part is made that way. But it is a nitemare, to be honest with ya. I didn't make this...hehehehehe. I just inherited it and trying to make it a bit more user friendly, espesially for this.

The tricky part is the compound curves that are in the part. The part with the curves and the flat are not linked in any way. So one could change the flat and nothing be shown on the curved part, or vice versa. Which as we all know can be very hard for the upper level assembly.

I was just told today that they tried and did have this made with surfacing, problem here is that most of the people here who work on pro have no surface experience or very very little experience with it enough to be able to make changes when needed.

can you post the .prt file and let us look at what you are trying to do? I can't tell from the pic if the bend is in one direction or two. if its in one it should be easy enough to make. if its in two then it gets trickier as you need to form it, and then when you flatten it out you need to define the deformable ares and tell proe how to flatten it- which is not exactly accurate.

Smoothpolar1,

I messed around and couldn't figure a way to create the part simply with bends. It was relatively easy to form with a punch- I got rid of the extra material with a cut. Flattening the form should be possible if you create deformable areas with the Create Deform Area tool. I'll let you figure that out.

I'm on WF3 here, so I guess WF2 can't use them. Don't know if theres a format I can save them to that you could open and still see the model tree.

The first time I used the punch, there was a thin strip of material left along the edge. So I went in and created a cut to remove it. Make sure you get right into the corner and select the correct edge when making your sketch. These jpegs might help:
