Free STEP and IGES Translator

Looking for a free STEP and IGES file translator, one that has more than a 15 day trial, but a real free one. Having problems importing files into pro, and want to confirm they will open in another program to see where the problem lies.

For viewing use rhino. www.rhino3d.com. I dont know about a free translator though.

It has a trial that is good for 25 saves, but you can open/view and work with as many files as you want after that, but you can't save.

"Translator" or "viewer"? Don't think you'll find the former but there are a few of the latter around. Kubotek (sp?) comes to mind. The Rhino suggestion ain't bad. You can view all you want and if necessary modify and use one of your free saves to export.

Hey soboyle,

I used to use Maya 3D back at my old company and I thought it was able to open STEP files. There is a free "Personal Learning Edition" available on the Alias (now Autodesk) site which contains almost all the features as the commercial version. However, the license prohibts all commercial use (or I think it said that), just be aware of that I guess. Since Maya 3D is a full 3D rendering suite I don't think they will mind if you just open STEP (and possibly IGES) files to verify they are not corrupt.

Here is the site for more information:

I hope this helps, if not reply.

Thanks.
