hole creation

Hi guys,

i'm having trouble creating a hole on this part.... you see the miniature triangle shape in the top portion of the part??? well i'm trying to create a hole some where on that line. However, when i tried to create it using extrude tool and cut, it will create a small surface instead of a hole....
is there any other way of doing this?

Thank you

alvin

I can't tell how big the part is compared to the size of the hole. If the hole diameter is small, try changing the Accuracy on the part. Its under EDIT, SET UP

Hi there,

Below in RED is size of the hole.... i want the hole to be exactly in the middle of that mini triangle....i tried creating hole using protrusion by referencing an axis (the mini triangle has an arc in the middle), but it didn't give me a hole. Instead it gave me this this surface going down (like shown in GREEN)....
What am i doing wrong?

thanks

could you post a WF2 version?

SURE VLAD.... How can i convert from WF3 to WF2??? i only know how to save to NEUTRAL or STEP but if i do that, the holes' parameterwill be gone....let me know what's best for u to try it on... thanks for the help

Alvin,

I've attached a fixed file WF3.

The problem is that the imported geometry is not continuous. If you zoom way in you will see that the individual line/arc segments do not meet.

What I did was to select the imported outline curves that you wanted and then made a copy using the "approximate" option of copy. This makes the curve one continuous spline

I then replaced your outline in your extrude with this new curve.
I had to trim (using the divide tool) one section where the lines didn't resolve correctly. And I had to trim (again with divide tool) the spline to create flat surface for your cut to extrude through. After I deleted the part of the spline I didn't want, I drew a straight line near that section and then constrained the ends to be coincident with the two ends of the spline section as Pro doesn't pick this automatically.

In your hole extrusion, I added a datum point on the "v" cut as a reference to align your holes.

So my spline (top flat surface doesn't meet the two radius on the left and right?
also the bottom V shape spline doesn't meet ??? when i zoom in on the V shape spline all the way in, it didn't meet...thanks for the help tobyk
so much for importing geometry....
