Holes and Assemblies

Hi I am new to Pro E and new to the forum. I was just wondering is it possible to make a hole in a assembly (hole through two or more parts) and have the hole show up in the parts file after?

I was just trying to put an assembly together with a bunch of cover panel over a steel frame. I defined the cover panel to the steel frame but didnt make any holes on either part (for rivets). I used the hole command in the assembly and started placing holes along the cover panel. I saved the assembly, went back to the part file but the holes are not there.

Please help.

You can create a feature... in your case a cut in the assembly. There is an option (im going from memory) in the feature that will let you choose where you want the feature to reside. I might call that type of cut a field drill because a drill goes thru all parts.

In the HOLE dashboard there is a tab called Intersect.

If you deselect Automatic update then you can do couple of things:

You can set te Default display level to PART levelfrom Top Level. This will put the holes in all of the interesected parts.

OR

You can right click on the models where you want tio holes to appear and select Part level individually.

After you have changed the display level you can Reselect automatic update.

The same options appear if you use Assembly Extrude Cut.

You could activate the part in the assy and use any feature like in a single part model. Just do it in every part that needs the hole. When your are done just regenerate the asssembly. When you open the part individualy the feature will appear.

The best way is to use Top-Down approach. Avoid circular references by all means.

What I'd do is create a skeleton in your assembly. It will be the first item your model tree. Create the hole references such as axis and planes (in that skeleton).

Then create any holes (part/assy.) using that skeleton's axis and planes.
