Holes references to holes problem

4wheels

New member
I have created a part, which is just a cube

then put into this a protrusion cut, of 6 holes on a pcd

then put another cut of 6 holes on, referencing the axis of the first cut, so that the holes should stay in line with the first set (to create c-bore holes basically)

i have also tried using the edge of the holes as the reference.

problem is when i change the distance from the edge of the cube to the first set of holes, the second set does not follow when i regen.

i would expect it to follow, as they are referenced together!

at least it did on pro e 2000i, now im using wf2.

any ideas!!?

This may be a stupid question, but have you made the first hole of the second set coaxial with the axis of the first hole of the first set?

I've succeded in using references a bit more complicated than the one you are trying (holes in 1 face referenced to holes on a perpendicaular face) & it works in wf2, so the problem seems to be in the way you have referenced the holes together.

they are a set of holes in a cut, done in the sketcher,

and then the same for the second set, on top of the first set.

i have a feeling its cos the part was made in 2000i and im editing it in wf and its all getting confused!!??

if you go to sketcher (second set of holes), you can go to sketch -> references & select the axis of the first set of holes, and use them as the centres of your second hole set.

A better (more long term) solution would be to remodel the holes as sketched holes (or through counterbored holes)using the hole tool - it will take more time up front to convert, but it will be more stable for future changes.
