How can you easily create a hole from another part and then break the link so that they are no longer tied together? We need this because when we build a jig around a part, we need to know where the holes were before the part changed so we can modify the jig.
I think I understand your situation, don't know a good answer. Some dependancies are easy enough to redefine, some aren't (and redefining to eliminate the external reference is the only option that comes to my mind unless there's a _don't_update_extern_refs_ option I don't know of).
What I think I might do is export a neutral for archive purposes. Are you fixturing around native or imported models (wondering why the concern)?
If you are using WF2 you might also look at Independent Geometry Features.
We normally design the jig using the top down design approach. Load the part in a new assembly file, now design the jig around this part and then using skeleton transfer all the references from the part to the jig. Once your design is finalised open the jig in a seperate window you and here you will see the references from the assembly. Now keep on replacing the assembly references with new features and you will get the required design without any external references. Hope this makes sense
and if doesnt then make sure you dont call ptc support otherwise you will get more confused.
