How to inherit with a fabrication

I have used inheritance to model the casting/machining scenario. The fabrication/machining scenario seems to be more difficult.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
To model the welds and show the joints between welded parts an assembly is required. But the machining model should be a single part. The problem is part can

There is an old and very simple feature to do this with, merge

start your machined part empty, based on your template model. Assemble the models you want and your machined part. Under "Component operations" pick merge and follow instructions.

When merged to your machined part you can start adding machined features. If merged with reference your machined part will update if you modify the others.

It creates a solid piece if there is contact between the referenced parts. Might not be what you want if you're working with welds.

Wow! Worked like a charm. Thanks ankar

. That was much easier than my origianl solution.

About the weld. I made them solid parts since I alwasy have such bad luck with the weld module and its display on the drawing is never what I want. By making my welds solid parts, the drawing (and now)the merge work perfectly.
