How to model this?

How can I model this plastic part?

I would like to have single part and single drawing. When the part
presented in assembly mode, I prefer a "closed" arm. But in the
drawing, I prefer it is "open" arm.

Can Pro/Detail create a view that combine of hidden line view and solid line view?

What I do in such cases: I make an assembly and put it in open position. Then create a simplified rep that shows the assembly in close position, then create a shrinkwrap out of this close position (save as / shrinkwrap). Then I assemble the shrinkwrap in the main assy with default option.

Then I open the drawing add a view put everything in solid fromproperties view window.

ThenI change the shrinkwrap to be phantom transparent from component display.

And I get a view with both states one on top of the other with the close positionwith hidden lines.

I the other views where I don't want the shrinkwrap to be shown I blank it again from component display.

I guess you can make the same thing with a part, don't see why not, but you will have to create a assy to assemble the part and the shrinkwrap.

PS: I make a shrinkwrap and not a instance in the assembly because it's easier to regenerate.

Be aware that the shrinkwrap will not update if you change the part length. So you should create it when you are done designing the part.

You should be able to do that in part mode with a spinal bend feature. Do a search, there are several examples.

vlad1979 is right but if you have MDX license and I think in WF 3.0 it can be done without MDX , you can create snapshots of the two positions provided you have done assembly using connections.

In snapshots you have the option to show in drawings. And this is easiest way to do it.

even with Mechanism - snapshot available in drawing - You could not have two states in one view, so this second state has to be in another view or creted by sketch entities

for the modeling, it's must be full-open, because only full-openmodel may use for tooling,

and for 2d darwing, I always create another modeling, and copy the full-open model's surface, makes top ofthis partturn 90 angle. and use this part makes 2d darwing.

and if full-open model be modify, every data be modify also.

Try using a Family table.

Create an axis where you want your hinge,
Then add a plane to the axis constrained to another plane with an offset angle.

Model your lid/cap off your new plane.
Then in your Family table just ad the dimension of your angle.

In your drawing you can assemble different instances to reflect the open and closed positions

I have created two parts: one for the holder, one for the lock.

And I assmeble it at different positions by assembling two locks: "closed" and "opened".

I can show in the drawing by setting:

View -> Components Display

Select the components you want it to be hidden line

-> Use fast HLR -> hidden line

Then I get an "opened" arm (in solid lines) with the closed arm (in hidden line)

yeah you can do that too, I use shrinkwraps because I have more than one component thatis moving and I don't want to assemble all again.

You have found the best solution to your problem.
