How to rename parts from PTC library?

fiebigc

I have a number of CAD files of fasteners that were downloaded from the PTC library. I can't seem to be able to rename the parts like I normally would. When I try to rename a part it will change the name everywhere I can find in the session but it won't change the actual file name on disk as seen in Windows Explorer.

I noticed when I view the folder contents from ProE I see a bunch of parts that are derived from one of the parts that I can't rename. Here is an example:

When I look at the directory from Windows Explorer I see only one part labeled "jwsmc.prt.". I need to get rid of this. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

The parts you marked are the family table instances.

When you download a part from PTC Library it will come with family table with different configuration. If u want to retain theinstances then you rename in the family table or else delete the family table.

The one that you are re-naming is the generic. The ones that you see with the <> to the right are instances of that generic (generic name in the <>).

To hide the instances, go to the icon in the upper right of the picture you posted, the one with the plus sign and a downwards pointing arrow. Click on that and de-select "All Versions".
