Does anyone know where I can find a site that has models to download of standard I-Beams, Angle Irons, Box Beams, etc..?

Have you heard of EFX? Its a module of ProE dedicated for structural modeling and detailing.

i would have created a UDF library and put all the standard section UDF's in that. and every time i need to make a section; i just have to call the UDF and give the desired length. (this is what EFX do i guess)

Hello,

If you wish to create the sections yourself you can do so easily by creating a family table i.e justmodelling the section once and making the software generate the neccesary variations of size for the given section. This will be far quicker than downloading 'dumb' IGES files one by one for all your required sizes.

Here is an o.k link for the standard sizes of some steelsection to BS standards, http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Sections/steel_sectio n_index.htm

If its ANSI standard sizes you require I'm sure there is plenty of information available on the web. I use the family table method of generating the various sizes of the sections and if you edit the family tablefile in excel you can literally cut and paste values from adigital document. Using this family table as a start part, models for individual sections within the assembly can be inserted using the 'copy from existing' part creation method whilst in assembly mode.

I generally model section with a cut at the end therefore I know the length of the standard bought in component and I can cut it down to the size required, a datum evalute feature can also be inserted after the cut feature and a parameter linked to it so that cut- lists can be created within drawings.

Hope that helped

Space_Bass,

What Pro/E you running?

As far as I know (I'm only on WF) WF3 has many standard sections in sketcher mode now. These are in the 'new' sketcher pallette.

PS If you run any previous version of ProE, then the way I do it is to save a basic sketch for each type of profile (I,T,C, RHS, CHS etc) on my workbench and then insert Data From File

I am running WF2.0. I actually found some standards for Angles out of a 1950 book, so those are well sketched. I am still looking for other standards.

If you have a "central steel" or "Ryerson" book, they have commonly used structural parts along with the dimensional scheme they use. Then you can create one and make a family table like stated earlier. Where to get models, I don't know, since it is so easy to create them on your own.

Space,

If you like that take a look at the home page, the whole site is an absolute mine of information

PS One thing that makes me smile
