Hi everybody !!

i usually import curve / from file ; and i use autocad to export *.igs file. But i have a trouble, when the *.igs file contain text, and proe can't not show these text when i import, proe just show the sketch only, i don't know how to solve it.

thanks everybody for reading !!

Isn't there an option in AutoCad to export text as text or as curves ?
You should try to set the option to curves.

Best regards,

Hi John !

sorry if my question is not clearly, I use autocad to export the drawing as *.igs file and i use proe to import this file as a curve, but after i import it, all the text in this file disapear.

Orac,

When I import 2D stuff into ProE. Here is what I do (by the way I never directly use IGES into ProE for 2D):

1. Export your drawing as a dxf.

2. Import into a ProE drawing. You may need to scale the file after you bring it in to get it to the correct size required. You will be exporting an IGES from here with the origin at the lower left of the ProE border. I usually make a horizontal line to snap objects to which I hide on a layer before exporting the IGES (i.e. if you wanted to center this text you mention on the origin, move that alone to the lower left using the horizontal sketch line and delete or hide everything else).

3. Create an empty part. and create a new coordinate system offset from the defatult by 0.000 in x, y, and z directions.

4. Import Data From File and select the new coordinate system as the origin. Keep in mind the data from the drawing will export at the origin of the ProE drawing and be positioned on the x-y plane in your new coordinate system.

5. I usually place the import on a layer I can turn off later.

I use the import as a reference only. For instance, if I need to create a logo, I bring in the outline from what ever other software and trace around it with a spline. This makes for easier selectionwhen generating solids from the import. Creation of the spline may be time consuming depending on how detailed the logo is. If you used imported 2D data before, most everything comes in segmented --- (i.e. I don't recommend "use edge" on a direct import).

Hope this helps!

hi ProE_addict !!

I also import *.dxf file , i do as the same way like you, but, if your *.dxf file contain text ( ex. ABC) , they will be lost in proE, i don't know how ??

Do you mean text created in AutoCAD, as in the default AutoCAD font? Or, is the text an imported graphic. Do you have an example you can send me or post?

HI !

Right, the text are made from Autocad, by the way I send you a sample file, in this file, i draw a circle and a square, and a text ( >PE< ) but when i import this file into proE, the text is not shown, there're just the circle and the square. Thanks for your helping.

Hi,

I've imported the dxf file as a drawing in Pro/E and imported the "Model Space" with the option "Create multi-line text" enabled.
The text >PP< is created just fine and can be edited within the drawing.

However when I tried to import it as IGES I lost the text.
This can be solved by using an export setting to change the text to curves.

Best regards,

John
