Importing surface

Hi all,

i would like to use a surface from another pro/e part; however I am not allowed to have external references. Therefore I would like to import the part into my part. I load the import as iges but when I compare the surface of this import part and the surface which is externally copied, there is a very small distance which creates problems at the later steps.

Do you know which import type has the best quality? Or can I adjust the surface quality or accuracy of the import?

Do you have any idea about having the surface without using import feature?

Thanks.

You can create an independant geometry feature.

DISCLAIMER: This method gets you geometry that is completley unmodifiable! I do not recommend referencing this feature's geometry for production intent models! ie. I use this as a quick and dirty method for initial prototypes/concepts, etc.

The basic workflow is this:
1. Create an assembly that contains both parts properly located relative to each other.
2. Activate the part you wish to add geometry to.
3. Copy and paste the surfaces/geometry you want from the other part.
4. Now open your part with the copy feature in it and add independant geometry to it. Insert>Independant Geometry (Hit the check box to finish the feature)
5. Reorder the independant geometry feature to be in front of the copy feature.
6. Redefine the Independant geometry, and select from the top menu, Geometry>Collapse Geometry
7. Select your copy feature from the model tree and done and finish out the feature.

Not completely unmodifiable.

I did this type of modifications quite a bit back in the day when top down design was too much for the engineering librarians managers and or Alias imports were poplular back before 1994. You can still modify IGES geometry... we have a great deal of control over IGES geometry. For one, we can modify an exported surface with respect to a CSO.Move the CSO and so does the IGES surface.Anyone interested to hear more?

Nice plug. I set you up good for that one, eh? (You can pay me later!
