ISDX draft surface connection

Hi,

This is my first post so please be gentle.......

I'mnew to ISDX and am in the process of choosing various items to model to gain some experience. I've been through the tutorials in the WF4 help section which included a tutorial on draft connections.

I've therefore picked a bottle neck shape (its actually a febreeze bottle) and I want to get some draft at the split line. I've attached the WF4 model if anyone could please have a quick look?

My issue is with Style 3. IfI "edit definition" this feature I canachieve a draft connection at edge 3 but not at edge 4. Attempting to create a draft connection at edge 4 just makes the connection icons disapear and the surface fails.

I intended to use one Style feature surface to create the required surfaceso Style 1 is there just so I could try and find out where the problem is. I've double checked all my curves and I'm pretty sure I've defined them correctly and matched the draft angles.

I just can't figure out why its not working!

first thing to understand about ISDX is that it's all about modeling technique. The second thing to make note of is that ISDX by it's self is not the tool of choice but it's the combination of parametric curves and free form curves and surfaces that makes the tool superior.

With that said draft is better done when created using a variable section sweep. Created as a feature before the ISDX feature and utilize that swept feature as a tool for the curves in ISDX. Force the parent child relationship to the VSS and obtain draft this way.

Bart,

Thank you for your help. Your comments regarding VSS switched on a light inside my head and I immediately remembered your fridge handle Youtube video.

As an aside, Ibriefly tried the ISDX draft curve connection method in WF3 and it worked. Must have been an issue with my WF4 session. Anyway, I'll be using VSS from now on........

Thanks again,

Adam

The makers of ISDX probably just added the draft function inside ISDX for the industrial designers that don't have specific modeling techniques for using the whole of Pro/ENGINEER and for those that want to use ISDX as a sort of stand alone tool.

I FIXED your problem. First you have too many curves as a boundary. Secondly you have to create additional curves that give you better control of the geometry. Let me know if you want the fixed model + how do you upload files here?
