Layer control Pro|E WF3 Student Edition

Hello PTC Community,

I use Pro|Engineer WF3 student edition at my school. Recently I have been trying to play around with layers - but do not seem to be able to create new ones or edit existing ones. When I right click on the layers icon in the browser window the dialogue that appears only gives the options to save, reset and (ocassionally) hide the layer status (save and reset being greyed out). I have had a fair bit of success doing this in the past with a non schools edition of WF4. Is this a Config.pro issue or does the student version not support layer's.

Can anyone suggest what entries might be missing in config.pro (if this is the issue) and if I need layers config folder too. The software is installed on both standalone and networked machines - both setups have the same issue.

Thanks in anticipation

I don't know of any config.pro option that controls what is in the list but yes you should be able to create layers in a student edition. Here is a pic of the RMB menu in the WF3 student edition.

The save and reset status picks will only be available if you have changed any of the layer's display state from what was saved. In other words, if the layer status were all saved as hidden, as long as tehy are all hidden those options will be grayed out. ONce you unhide one you can then save the status in that state or reset the status to the prior saved state.

If I understood correctly the options he is trying to use are New Layer and Layer Properties but they are either not there or are greyed out. I'm not aware of any config.pro option that controls this. The only thing I see that may be causing what you are seeing is if you have more than one model window open. If so make sure the model window for the model you want to add the layer to is active. Here is a picture of what I get with two model windows open, the part has a modified layer but the model window isn't active.

kdem and dgs - thanks for your replies.

I only have one model open and when I RMC on any layer I never get the long pop-up-menu, only a very short 2 or three entry box. What am I doing wrong. I have WF4 SE installed on my laptop and can view layer properties, add layers etc.

The datecode I have is M020. Since this is a school setup you might try contacting PTC at [email protected]. They are usually good at helping out. I haven't seen what you're seeing so the only thing I can think of is a corrupt installation.
