learning surface modeling

2ms1

New member
I am in dire need of some learning resources regarding surface modeling. It seems like every book, general tutorial, etc cuts off right before really getting into surface modeling. I bought a couple tutorials from frotime.com butreally didn't find them all that usefully, or at least not as in-depth as I'm looking for.

I need to have the ability to make things with complex surfaces. I don't just make machine parts or whatever. The project I'm working on now involves a tremendous amount of surface variation, contours, etc. Since I have the student edition, my account at ptc.com apparently doesnt have privileges to access any materials that have the little key icon next to them.

Can anyone help point me to some instructional materials? If I can't findthe instructional infoI'm looking for in the public domain, then (though I'm a poor grad student) I amopen to purchasinga tutorial ortwo fordownload or something. I just need something!!

no problem

dry your tears bure, I did and I can live without that;)))

sometimes I catch myself on idea to know everthing about pro\e

than I ask myself - do You really need that man, ha?

so to summarize - till I do not need it in my job - I can live without being master of surfacing;)

2ms1,

The more complicated surfacing you are describing will be possible if you understand the basics. It is often a good idea to look at a model that is built with more complicted methods and take it apart to see how it was built. PTC has several models made with complicated surfacing methods and graph features that are a good insight into how to make these features.

I recall one that is a jet fighter and another that is a hummingbird, both made with complicated features or advanced techniques.

Wow Magneplanar this looks like it is going to be vey useful. How did you find it? Whenever I look for tutorials at PTC I only find a million that you have to have a commercial account in order to access (ie the ones with little key icon next to them). I have student edition so I am never able to access any of those and yet I am able to access this page.

2ms1,

Usually, they allow access to things pertaining to older versions, or details that have been improved. Search around...there is alot out there.

cheers

I think I remember you telling me you were in Uni right? well if this is the case, your university has FREE ACCESS tomostif not all of PTC training - which includes surfacing. Talk to yor lecturer about it and see if he/she knows anything abotut it. Part files are available in both student and educational versions and also asuming your university has an educational license, it dosent matter anyway because it can open both Student versions and Commercial versions.

if memory serves me correctly, Lary Fire from PTC is the man to talk to about uni's getting access..

hope this helps!
