How to creat LEFT HAND PART from RIGHT HAND PART

I tried this step:

1. Created right hand part as RIGHT.prt

2. Create dummy assm as assm.prt

3. Assmeble RIGHT.prt as default

4. Insert--component---create--part/mirror----naem as LEFT.prt----copy

5. For Reference part, I am trying to select RIGHT.prt but it gives me error message" Selected entity is external. It cannot be backed up". For PlanarReferences, I am selecting the RIGHT.prt planes

Thanks in advance

If that fails for you, there is another way you can do it.

In your original part " Right " select the whole model ( the top item in your layer tree on the left ) then mirror about an offset datum. You can thendelete the original part and save as " Left "

hi there Naren

you can do this all in one part. dummy assys are NOT needed because they lead to external references that cause nightmares if you go and delete the assys later.

to make sure you keep the history of the design i suggest you do as skint proposes but do not delete anything.

once you have the 2 handed models in the part create 2 cut features, one to delete either part then create a family table turning on/off the cut features.

i used this method on motorcycle fairing parts with great success.

hope this helps
