Library of standard parts

Hello,

I need advice. I'm planning to create own library of standard parts. I want to use family tables but have some doubts about such parameters of standard parts (screw) like surface treatment (raw, Fe/Zn, etc), mechanical properties (5.6, 8.8, 10.9). Such parameters doesn't change the geometry but in order to have different text in "NAME" parameter I need toduplicate the instances. I also think about 3D family tables but their creation seems to be time consuming.

Do you have any expierience / ideas how to do it?

How do you name the files of generic part and instances

I will be very appreciated for your help,

Create a new parameter and you can add it to the family table and fill in different values or descriptions for the different instances.

Slawek, naming conventions are really just about whatever makes sense to you and your compamy.

Creating your standard parts can be done with family tables however if your working over a network, even a home network, family tables can slow retrieval of the assy and even cause a few crashes, so Family Tables need to be kept simplei.e no threads on screws etc. The handiest method that I have found is a bit of a mix bewteen the both. Because I work on contract for companies some of them do not want to see all of the instances of a family table listed when they click open, which happens. The only real other alternatives will be havin indiviual parts, which is not always a bad thing given that most people have stacks of hard drive space these days (its quite cheap).

Ultimately, the best advice is to have a go with both methods and see which one you prefer and which one suits your method of working the best. Hope this helps.

A previous employer used a family table part that was stored offline. When changes were required, the generic and the table were changed, then the affected parts were stored as standalone parts in PDM.
