Making a Revision Drawing

Whenever i make a change to a part that has already been machined, i need to make a revision of the part, ie. part_rev_a to part_rev_b. This is to ensure that we have a good history of what we have done to the part.

So what i do is "save a copy" of the part file and the drawing file so that i have a seperate revision of both.

My problem is that when i save a copy of the part to make it rev b, the drawing file still references rev a. I'd like it to reference rev b but still keep the dimensions.

Im not sure if I've been clear enough, but please help.

First of all, I would only save a plot file like a .tiff, .ps or .pdf. If you really want to save old part & drawing files there are two ways I know to do it & probably lots more. My preference is to open the drawing & part files then rename both IN SESSION ONLY. Then save the drawing which will also save the renamed part. The newly renamed drawing will reference the newly renamed part & the original drawing will still reference the original part. Another approach is to backup the drawing to another directory then close the current drawing, switch to the backup directory & rename there. The downside to that is the backup command will probably save things like your drawing format that you don't want.

There is also the renam_part_with _drawing (or something like that) that will automatically save both when you do a save as but only if they have the same name which ours never do.

Thanks, that really helped. I used the config option. it is called "rename_drawings_with_object"
