When I am doin mass properties on any assembly, and when it gives me the x, y, z values for the center of mass what are those distances in reference to?
When you define a part or an assembly, you have a coordinate sistem (SW define this coordinate sistem by default). You can see this sistem's orientationat the lower left corner of the SW screen and the origin ( 0,0,0 ) in time and after you define a part or an assembly.
If you don't see the origin, go to menu VIEW and select ORIGINS.
The x,y,z distances ( x = 8 in your case) are the distances from this origin.
Be very carefuly: The same part can have a different center of mass. If you move the part's sketch left or right, up or down, or youposition differnt the parts in an assembly, you obtain different values (x, y, z)for center of mass.
Hope you unterstand, because my english is not very good.
