Massive rename

trally

New member
Hi, i would like to know if someone has the same problem of mine: when i do project i use temporary names for the parts and the assemblyies; so i have one part, one drawing with the same name corresponding to that part. The same for the assembly associated to its drawing.

Ok? So, if i want to rename all the parts and the assemblyies and all the drawings, there is some automation, or have i to open them manually paying attention to the dependecies?

I think about a "macro" that open the assembly drawing's, open the assembly/ sub assemblyies, open all the parts drawing's, and all the parts, and then use a mask to rename all the names.

Many thanks.

The quickest way is probably to open the main assembly and to do a Save As. This will enable you to rename all of the parts in one place.

As long as you have the config.pro option rename_drawings_with_part set to both you will also rename the drawings as well. Then you can delete the temporary parts & assemblies.

Thank you for the reply. It is not all i would like, but it is a good, very good tip.

The string is rename_drawings_with_object = both

There is a problem with the sheetmetal _flat parts. It rename only the first level of the family table, and the flat is not a first level,it is a child. So, when you try toopen the drawing, it fails, because the program doesn't find the flat part in the renamed part.

The only solution i found is to open the original drawing, open the part, rename the flat part in the family, click on "rename the object in session", click ok, ok. rename the part in the session; go to the drawing, verify it is all ok, with the model, and then save all.

But when you have 200 flat parts? One week of work or is there another way?

Thanks.

Thank you very much, i will try.

But a question, noboby else has this problem? Nobody works with sheetmetal and rename family table elements?

I use Intralink. Intralink is very good also to rename. The cost is many times saved in time saving.

Try to avoid temporary names.

If you must use them during modelling phase, try to have them finalised by the time you come to create the drawings. It saves so much time and heartache in the long run.
