Mating question

I'm trying to mate and object to a structure where the mating location is difficult to define. Basically if you extrude a cylinder and save as partA. then extrude a circle with the same diameter as the cylinder and save as partB. in essence you now have a rod and a hoop to fit over the rod. I need to mate the hoop onto the outside of the rod about its centre line. i.e. not the ends of the cylinder.

thanks in advance

hello njsavage

cant you just simply use a concentric mateand then click the inner face of the hoop en the outer face of the rod and u could use the distance mate to mate it at a certain point of the rod.

i hope this helps

kind regards

Norman

When you extrude the parts, extrude from the center both ways. (Use the Mid Plane choice.) Then you can mate the mid planes together.

Another option is to select view and then turn on the temporary axis. then you could mat them concentric to each other.

In SolidWorks there are so many options to reach the same result.

kind regards,

Norman

I take it that all no matter which option i use i will get the same result. I presume that once I export the assembly into FEA software I will have contact points to define and no 'overlapping' will occur??

cheers for the help everyone.

P.s. any ideas about the riveting issue??
