merge to surface problem

hi all


I have a model in which i have swept along the surface of a pipe , but the pipe is birfurcated by a plate.I have tried to define a path from the plate along the pipe , but the sweep command only happens with "free ends" and goes thorugh the other goemetries.........but i want only till the plate surface and merge doesnt work...... i have tried with szeveral paths and other ideas but the sweep is just not working with merge .......can you please suggest something ?
