message lines

There is an option which sets the visible message lines to desired say

visible_message_lines 2

But sometimes this automatically resets to the default visible message lines.

I waited for posting this topic till M180 (I am using Wildfire 2.0) which is the latest release so far.

And it is reported that M180 is the most stable release but this problem is still unresolved.

Have any other user noticed this?

This has been posted before, do a search on it. As I recall, it has something to do with the Dashboard GUI. Once you exit the dashboard Pro/E automatically goes back to a minimum of 3 message lines.

dr_gallup,

Thanks for response but the problem remains there and thats why I asked it.

This is a message for ptc guys.

I don't think you will get much response form PTC by posting here. They don't seem to respond even when you file bug reports or enhancement requests on their site.

What is so bad about 3 message lines anyway, I set mine to 4.

How is it that you guys (in particular) know so much, I am always amazed.
Perhaps, and I am an amateur on this forum, more message lines allow us all to see the potential for error.

I don't need no f*** messages. They take up important screen space. The working space can't be large enough. I have messages squeezed down to 1 line (it won't go smaller) and a modeltree showing features only. Why is it that ProE can't highlight a problem both on the model and in the modeltree, SHOWING me what's wrong, but insists on telling me that feature number XXX is in trouble, forcing me to look the damn thing up and have a modeltree at least 3 columns wide ???

And the quality of some messages !!! "The model is more recent than the drawing", of course it is, I just tweaked it !!!

dr_gallup,

you say 3 lines does not matter, but I say it matters small size monitors, and I like to scroll if I need to see the message lines.

Another reason is that i like to have maximim graphics area available.

Get a bigger monitor, get a second monitor or run the monitor you have at a higher resolution. Obviously, I don't know what you use Israr, but I'm always amazed at the people I see running Pro/E on a 21" monitor set to only 1024 x 768! I use a wide screen 24" monitor 1920 x 1200, that is the minimum I would buy today. Life is to short to use a small monitor.

Got me a 22" Iiyama, min. 20" visual, working @ 1600x1200. It can handle a higher resolution but my eyes don't

I would go for an even larger size but that's what is commercial available - at least for my "wallet versus pixels ratio"

Latest "knowledge" base update it that this is intended functionality and they are not going to change it!

Resolution

-----------------

The reported behaviour of the "visible_message_lines" config.pro option
is the intended functionality in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 2.0. The purpose
of the config.pro option is to set the default number of message lines
upon startup of Pro/ENGINEER (the undocumented limit for the initial
lines is 5). If a feature involving the dashboard is invoked and there
is not enough space for the dashboard, the number of message lines is
increased to contain the dashboard and one message line. The new size
will be kept until manually changed by the user or otherwise for the
entire session of Pro/ENGINEER, in order to prevent constant resizing
of the graphics area whenever the dashboard is used.
