Mirrored parts in assembly

If I have symmetry in an assembly (L/R) and I create a mirrored part - is there any way to break the symmetry down the road? Or is this one of those plan ahead type things?

Its a little annoying because I've got angle iron on the left and right side of a panel (mirrored). I patterned the left one and had to pattern the right one seperately, so the symmetry is not quite complete.

This is a cheap way to do what your asking but it leaves you with a part that has limited capabilities

1 - create temporary asm file

2 - attach part

3 - create mirror part in asm

4 - open mirrored part from memory

5 - delete temp asm

6 - clear memory and save new part
