If you have a parts library for example, pro-e will look at your search.pro file tofind the locations of objects that your searching for. You can add as many directories as you like to the search.pro fileI believe, you can open and edit using word or even notepad. Edited by: [-Skint-]
[-Skint-] I dont think he is talking about not being able to find the part because it is in different directories, I think hes asking about renaming files and now the assembly is looking for the old name file, where it has a new name.
dpinho- There is no real easy way to do this. You could forget renaming the actual file name and have a parameter for the part name instead that you change and show on drawings, BOM's,...etc.
If you want to change the file name itself, try and have as many things in memory as you can that use that part, so they see the change. And if you run into a time when your assembly fails, just open up the part, change it back to the original name, open the assembly, rename the part back to the new name, and then save the assembly.
You have to open the file with the new name, rename it to the original name, re-open the problem assembly then rename the component back to the new name. Then save the assembly. It really is best to avoid renaming altogether if you don't have a PDM. If you have to rename you have to search for all the drawings & assemblies that reference the component & open them first before the rename. PITA but that is one of their biggest selling points for PDM.
