I am having a problem since I installed 2008. On none of my models can I apply a color. What changed, or what am I doing wrong? I truly don't think I changed anything.
If you have Real-View enabled the Edit Colors icon will be greyed out. Turn that off first. Although the Edit Colors tool is the same as in 2007 the method of applying colors or textures to the model has changed.
Like many other options Edit Sketch Insert Sketch Exit Sketch have all been made into icons Exit Sketch wasn't added until later Service packs. The way color is applied is by selecting any face on the mdel and choosint the Appearances Flyout from the bottom row of the Context toolbar which is usually on the second row represented by a Gold Sphere. When selecting the flyout you'll see a Tree structure with [X] boxes displayed or colors if a color hads been set. These allow you to chose where you want to apply the color and the hierarchy. Part or Part in Assembly color show on bottom and Face shows at the top. This reduces the need to enable or disable the Selection filters in the Edit Colors property manager.
If you like the old functionality better just pin the Property manager open and click away at the icons to get the right filters. You can do the same by selecting the X in the Textures column of the flyout to set material appearances.
