Any ideas as to the best method of modeling a Motorbike Tire.

The picture enclosed is how I modelled it , with a Toroidal Bend but this requires a slight flat profile to be created on the centre of the tire (Due to the radius having to be tangential to a line during creation. Also I need to produce irrgular tire treads to mimick the real thing and this was not possible using the Toroidal Bend as it would fail.If you need to know what type of look I am after, check out CAD bikes on DBBP.COM

Any ideas for a method would be appreciated. Who knows I might even let youride theBike I ma building when I have finished.

Cheers

Sean,

I would say you DO make use of the toroidal bend feature. It is a very powerful tool to make the most exotic threads on a tire, but it requires secure modeling. Make sure the curves and coordinate systems are set correctly preventing the feature to fail. Start with the main dimensions of the tire and a plain toroidal bend, so you have a good basic. Then start redefining and ad a fine thread.
