modeling feather structure for chicken

Peka

New member
Hello,

I want to design a chicken in WF2 (with ISDX). My biggest question is how to make the finefeather structure on the outside surface of the body, just like in the attached pictures? Can anybody give my some advise? Thereafter I want to make a mold of it for injection molding.

Thanks in advance.

I dont think you should be using pro-e for something like that, you would do better using 3DS Max.

If you manage the chicken though, let us know hehe.

If your are a legitimate user of pro-e and have the maintenance, there is a hummingbird modelled which you can find on the PTC website under the Advanced Surfacing Tutorials. It has feathers modelled etc, but only basic nothing like what your looking for.

Good luck dude !

..Yes I agree with dr_gallup... Or just create the simple model from plasticine and than scanned it by 3D Scanner. (Laser or Optoelectronic).. Than use Restyle,ISDX features in Wildfire for create surfaces and so on...

Now thats some funny shyt!

Either find a feather texture or create one in photoshop. I cant view the image so I cant give you any visual advice. WHats your motivation for modeling a cock?

My company develops feeding and drinking systems for chickens, mainly in plastic parts. For our customers we want to make some customized gadgets, like a chicken with chocolate eggs for example.

Would putting the hummingbird file on this forum for download be illegal? I thought it came under free downloads in the PTC link. BTW, I am a legit user and had maintenance for some time.

Hi Peka

its better to use 3ds and transfer the model to ArtCAM. In artcam u can use texture. bcoze this kind of texturing in pro need a thousad hour working. or make model in pro and export it to ArtCAM.

I don't think that it is possible to model fine feather in Pro/E judging by your pictures you have provided to us. Or if it could be done then a lot of time and effort would be put in it.
Also producing this kind of model might be expensive.

My suggestion if you want to produce this gadgets, is to create model of chicken with smooth surfaces, then using some sort of artificially feather, put them all over your plastic model chicken and you will havefine feather effect.
This way you could ease your job, cheaper production, and you'll have your gadget.

As if you really want/need to model feather, then maybe if you can do some sort pattern feature on model surface, then using warp shape them into feather you might be able to achieve fine feather effect, but this would be a lot of job to do.

Hope it helps

Hi Peka

If u had modeled, just send it to me. I will try to create feather for u in artcam.

Hey Zaki,
thanks for your proposal.
I think it willtakes a few weeks to modelling the part.
i'm rather new in Pro/E and I must do it in my free time.
If it's ready I will contact you.

Artcam looks very powerfull. I never heard about it, but I take a look on the website and I'm supprised about the possibilities of the software.

Best regards,
Peka

Hi Zaki, seems you are familiar with both proE and Artcam I presume you are also familiar with Power Shape and Cad Copy (I browse their site)Whats thedifference between proE and artcam, power shape and cad copy (They go in together right, Delcam software?)?

I'm long time proE userand I want to know. These software you are telling seems better in Glass Bottle Packaging. Coz if it is so then I want oto learn this CAD system.

Hey anyone can answer. Thanks...

Ok Peka Im waitin for ur part.

Hy Manlay, I replied u in pm. Pro is best for every kind of medeling even glass bottle. but the texture is another thing. May ptc make it in future.
