More Grouping Problems

I had a problem earlier that I found out to be rooted in grouping.

Now I've got a new one. In the assembly I'm working on, I've got a number of circular cuts (protrusion) and I've INSERTed parts into them:

I've done each cut separately so that they can be customized as needed in the future. I've then grouped and labled each set of protrusion and inserted part:

etc...

The problem I am having is that from time to time, I will regen the model and the inserted parts will all fail in their placement. When I investigate, it cannot find the cutout surfaceused to reference the INSERT for each part.

I suspect thisthe fault of grouping because I have not run into this problem when everything is ungrouped. Of course I only run into this problem in about 1 of every 10 regens so who knows.

I'd really like to keep this grouping setup so that we can supress & activate them as needed without having to fish around for each corresponding protrusion and part. But, if I have to loose it, I have to loose it. And Ideas??

Rbrgr83,

I have a feeling (could be wrong) that it may not be the grouping that is causing you the issue, but your assembly constraints.

You have INSERT'd the couplings into the cutouts, I think if you ALIGN'd their respective axes instead, it might be more stable.

If you have time, give it a try (maybe just do one of the groups to test it out)

Why don't you try using an align constraint rather than an insert. Create an assy cl axisreferencing the cutout (includingit inside ofits corresponding groups), and then constrain the coupling to assy axis.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Thanks guys, align contraint seems to be working well. No crashing yet, but I will let you know if anything comes up.

Thanks again!

Edit:

Awsome fix, have yet to have a single crash with these components. And let's just say i've be testing this model to the limits of it's robust-ness.
(I really should have bought it dinner first)
