Moving Parts in a Different Plane?

Greetings All!

Sorry to drop a 'beginner' question in this forum since it seems to be alot of people that know this program well, but I'm just learning Pro-E for a college class. Basically I have to design a stool, and I have the base and two of the legs done, but haven't figured out how to move them where I want them.

In the pic below is what I currently have now, and about the star is where I want one of the legs to be. Both those legs are on the same sketch and just mirrored each other. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You'll probably find that people wil approach this in different ways but it's all going to depend on what you want. From your picture, assuming the legs are going to be the same distance from the center, one way to do this is create one leg at the location you want (the star) and pattern it using a axis pattern (works well if leg center is 45 degrees to one of the datum planes).

Wanna_B_ME,

Welcome to the forum. It looks like you are in part mode and have mirrored the leg. If you wish to model it as a single part. proceed as detailed above.

If needed seperate, there is no need to mirror it since there would be a rotational symmetry. model one leg, and assemble them.

To facilitate assembly, you may have a pattern of points on the base to which you can assemble the legs.

Great! Thanks for the help! I'll give it a go when I get to lab.

I tried that once but the only problem when I did that, the legs were straight down from the base of the stool, but they flare out a little bit, so I'll just have to try a few things.

I'm assuming you sketched the leg on the front datum plane and extruded the sketch. Leave the legs where they are. Edit the definition of the extrude. Instead of extruding to one side use the extrude on both sides option. This will center the legs about the datum plane. Then use the axis pattern with 2 pattern members and a rotation angle of 90 degrees.
