Dear Raghu.

1. PLM tracks the complete lifecycle of products from concept through to retirement. PDM manages all product data from CAD models and drawings through to other product definition documenttation including reports, test specs, mill certs, standards etc etc. PDM systems typically manage the engineering revision and change control processes within your company.

A true PLM solution would include a PDM system as just one of the component parts in addtion to CRM, ERP (or MRP) and SCM etc etc...

In my opinion there are very few companies that can cover the true scope of a PLM solution even though they market themselves such.

There are a number of systems that support Pro/ENGINEER that can all be found on the web. A couple of examples are Intralink and Windchill from PTC, Smarteam from IBM and my own product www.designdatamanager.com

I am not aware of a matrix that is available but you mayfind one on the internet. In my opinion most vendors will not have a mtrixbecause most of the solutions on the market whether pitched as PLM or PDMdo basically the same thing.

How to sellect a vendor. Have a good understanding of your requirements and budget then start looking. Time and Cost of implenentation will very much depend on what you are looking for PLM, PDM ? and how big your implementation is. Each vendor will differ based on whether thier product does things out of the box or if you need consulting time to achieve your aim.

Without getting into more detailed conversation there are not appropriate for this forum, it is difficult to help you further as I am a vendor. I have tired to answer you questions without it being a sales pitch. I am sure many other readers will be able to help further as they canspeak more freely than I can.

Good luck and best regards, Joe
