nesting parts(profiles)

Hello all,

I am looking for an algorithm to allow me to nest efficiently different shapes in 2D. I need to cut the countours of the parts to nest them in plasticdrawers. The drawers are rectangular in top view and have a certains depth , which is not criticalin my application. Is there such a thing in Wildfire(PRO/E) ?

I will ask someone at PTC as well.

TIA,

Michael

Pro/ENGINEER NC Sheetmetal will allow you to nest 2d or sheetmetal flats.

Unfortunatly this module's cost wouldn't justify your application. But maybe someone at PTC could come up with a solution. If you know anyone who has this option, they could theoretically do it for you depending upon the requirements.

Basically all sheetmetal CAM softwares use nesting algorithms to nest multiple parts on various sheetmetal stock sizes for laser and punch machines. The sock (container) size is a controllable sqaure or rectangle but using a few tricks it can take on most any shape.

See what solutions PTC come up with first, but if you find yourself in a bind, there are several users on this forum that have NC Sheetmetal that maybe able to assist you.

Let me know what PTC suggests.

Hi all,

I know that when I wasn't quite ready to buy aax my sales rep for ptc said he could set me up with a temporary license to do the job I had at hand.

I would approach the sales rep and see if he'll be willing to do something for you.
