quick question about PDMLink...

i have an assembly that is built of ALL components that are already checked into PDMLink, but the assembly itself still resides outside of PDMLink, as it is old legacy data.

how do i first successfully save this assembly to the workspace, then check it it?

currently, i am unable to even save it to the workspace.

thanks in advance for any help,

Greg

  1.
You are able to save it to your Workspace but there will be a conflict between the existing parts already in PDMLink. You can't see any numbers but the name will be there.

Check all parts that have empty fields in Number.

Click Add to Workspace

Click Next

You will now have the option to Download content from PDMLink or Reusecontent from Workspace.
Check for symbols of download or reuse.

Tip : You can change the view of the columns in your workspace and add column Compare Status to your table. If there's a conflict you will see "File name conflict" in this column.

Conceptually what you are saying makes sense, but I don't know how to get there.

First, how should I open this assembly? Do I need to be connected to the PDMLink server or not?

I'mvery new to PDMLink, and have not yet received formal training. I am using a "test" server that was loaned to us by our VAR.

  1.
Connect to PDMLink and select or create appropiate workspace.

Open aasembly from disk.

Save and Upload to get the conflict of the parts. Do the steps in previous reply.

thank you magnusod.

using your help, i was able to get the assembly saved & checked in. thanks again.

now i have a new problem. i have a different assembly that will not save into the workspace. upon trying to save, I get a warning message that simply says "xxxx could not be saved to the workspace."

have you ever seen this occur? if yes, do you have any pointers as to why an assembly cannot be saved into the workspace?

thanks again

No, never experienced this.

Where do you see the message? Is it from a pop-up message or from the Event Manager?

You may get more information from the Event Manager under View in workspace menus or click "Stop symbol" left of Filter menu.
