Offset Lines Extend Too Far

MetalHead

Ok, so I know how to create and modify exploded views in assembly mode including adding offset lines. But sometimes my offset lines extend past the object that I selected to create them. Sometimes they will go right through an object and extend past the end of it by a significant amount. Since I was putting the lines between a pin and a hole in a plate, I tried to use AXIS on the pin side, and SURFACE NORM on the plate side. Same result.

Any ideas?

Hi,

You're not alone with offset lines doingthis....it happens all the time! Here's how to correct it: When you first go to the Explode State redifine menu, click on the "OFFSET LINES" choice. Once in this menu, there will be 3 items, Create, Modify, and Delete. Pick Modify....the choices then should be Move, Add Jogs, and Delete Jogs. Click on Modify (it might already be thedefault). It doesn't tell you this, but now you're ready to pick on the endpoint of the offset line you wish to move.Just click anddrag it over a whole bunch in the direction you want to move it. It won't let you move it any further than the objest reference you used to create it, that's why I say to just move it a bunch....it'll find the right place to stop. I don't know why they go past their reference points at times (maybe 20 or 30% of the time).Sometimes you don't realize it till you see the drawing. Kind of a pain.

Is it possible to reroute or Edit References on Offset lines, most of the time I just give up and recreate them cause the UI is fixed in the past and has become annoying? It is also possible to use axes of mating features as offset lines and they are much easier to drag in your drawings but they do not automatically update ther position when you modify the explode state.

Thanks for the input. I just modified the offset lines to have them stop at the intended features, as suggested by cruzrnb.

Just to clarify, in wildfire 3.0, you don't have to drag as suggested by cruzrnb. In wildfire 3.0, click on the end of the offset line and then click at the destination where you want the line to end. Sometimes you only see it in the drawing and not in Assembly. To solve that, in the assembly, click towards the end of the line anyways and then click on destination. Then go back to drawing and update the drawing.
