Hi guys

does anybody know how to export a list of parameters in a way that a can use in other part.

I have changed my defaultparameters list (template)and now I have toadd these parameters inall old componentsin order to get my BOM all right.

Thanks a lot

tools>parameters

file>export

With this option u can export the total parameter list.

Is there a way to export all parameters from all models into a file? I am trying to get a list of models in my assembly where a parameter named "IS_PDF" equals YES. From that, I hope to write an AutoIT script to loop through the parts looking for this parameter and if it is YES, print it as a PDF file. I got the script to do the PDF portion. I just can't come up with a good way to figure out what the value is in each part.

I tried to make a BOM table and export that as a text file. This works fine except I cannot figure out a way to automate the export. Mapkeys don't seem to be able to select tables.

If I can do something like you suggest but for the entire BOM I think I could get it to work.

Thanks,
Jim

Ok .... I can export a list....

But how can I use this list on other part. How can I import it??

The easiest way to 'copy' parameters from one part to another is by neutral file. Export part A (that has the desired parameters) to a neutral file and import that neutral file into part B (that needs the parameters). Once imported, the import feature can be deleted and the parameters will remain.

That's good up to WF3, haven't tried it in WF4 yet. it only works for parts and doesn't work for sheet metal, unfortunately.

Quite genius Doug!

After deleting the imported feature, the parameters remained as expected. However they were all locked and therefore not editable. All except the PTC_COMMON_NAME parameter which was User-Defined as seen from the 'Source' column in this Parameter Dialog Window. The rest which were not editable had a 'Source' being ATB (whatever that stands for).
It was not even possible to change the 'Access' from Locked to Full.

I played around with the 'Designate' checkbox before saving out to a Neutral file and whether it was checked or not for any of the parameters, did not make a difference.

What can be done to bring in the neutral file so that each parameter can be editable?

I am using WF2.

All the same Doug, that little neutral file trick -> genius.

I used to add a list of company standard parameters to existing parts using a trail file.

I just started with a blank part, manually added the company standard parameters and saved the part.

Then I opened the trail file for that session, deleted the File; Open lines, and saved the trail file as a .txt file.

Then I opened the target part, ran the .txt file (parameters were added and the target part was saved), then opened the next target part, ran the .txt file, ad infinitum.

Odd, I've been using this technique since 2001 up to WF3 and have never seen that problem.

How are you doing the import - export? I do a File -> Save a Copy as a neutral file form the first modeland then insert -> Shared Data -> From File and then pick the neutral file in the second model. Is that what you're doing?

That is it Doug, that is the way I did it as you just described there.

I could have done with that trick back then, but if it can be made to work now I won't complain.

It is a strange one alright.
In the screenshot that I posted above, I suspect the Source column might hold the answer or give a direction in how to solve why it is not working for me. When I get a chance I'll have to figure out where the 'ATB' comes from and what it stands for.
