Part colours to suit rendering and design

Dave,

I've no answer to this one but wanted to add my vote to see if anyone can give us the answer.

Cheers,

Sam

Hey Dave,

What we usually do is to create a quilt from your work model or work quilt/skeleton at the end of the model tree. We throw that quilt on a stand alone layer, the solid goes on a layer solid or the work quilt under construction surfaces (or whatever). The Normal part I usually assign a color to that suits my need (mostly olive coz it gives the best visiual surface quality check). The copied quilt is used to assign different colors that the designers use, or which is easely manipulatable in photoshop.

What the other guys also tend to do is to create a model merge, or copy what they need with external copy geometry in a new part, which they use to render or experiment with

I know its a workaround, but it works.

Greets,

Nick

One simple method is to make each part the actual color of the material. When you have the assembly open go in and select the components one by one and make them the "cartoon" color for the designers. You can than simply go back to the color display and choose components again. Hit the clear all button and they turn into their original part colors. Simply close and erase the file without saving and the next time you open the file it will be back at "cartoon" colors!
