Part hidding itself

Hey all

I have an assembly i've been working on for a bit. I've noticed recently that every time I open it, there is a certain component which loads "hidded" (i.e. Hide/Unhide function). I can quickly go into the model tree and unhide it, but I'm wondering why it is doing this.

I have unhiden and saved numerous times. The strangest thing is that it is not the only instance of this part in the model. One would think that if there was something going on with the part itself, then it would manifest in all of it's instances in the assembly. The part is drivien (in both dimension and placement) by the relations of the overall assembly, so that may be related.

Let me know if anyone has seen this before. Also let me know if more info would be helpful.

there is no such thing as part hidding itself. Most likely you hide it at one time and forgot about.

Hide/unhide is working just in "session" sort of speak. If you don't save the layers status then the component will have the previous status when the layers were saved.

So open the assy, unhide the part, go to layers save status, then save theassy. Now the part will be visible every time you open the assy.

PS: What's with the failure notice, when you have a part hidden as far as I know you don't recieve such message.

Thanks Vlad, exactly what I needed.

Although I must disagree with you. Parts can often hide themselves if they are feeling moody or temperamental. When I unhid this part, I think I heard it mutter something anti-semetic.

Vlad,

Nice solution to the problem, didn't think of the need to save status in layers....

is this option useful then?

save_model_display shading_lod

I think this option only dealswith the amount of data stored for the preview display.

Like Roto said it's got nothing to do with the hide/unhide function. It only stores the amount of graphics in part file.
<H1>save_model_display </H1>
shading_high, shading_med, shading_low, shading_lod, wireframe
Controls the amount of graphical data stored in the assembly and part files. By default, the system always stores wireframe data in both parts and assemblies. The system always stores wireframe data for parts. The only information that the system saves in the assembly .asm file is the display setting of components that are intersected by assembly features. The system also saves the tessellated data for the low, medium, high and lod options. The display setting at the time the assembly is saved is stored in the part and assembly files.

i hate to beat a dead horse (oh who am I kidding, I love doing that)but:

Anyone know why my model is being saved like this if I am not saving the layer status? The only time i've even used that function is to keep things unhidden that have mysteriouly become stuck hidden

There is another setting that affects this in assembly mode.

View > Visibilty > Save Status (Reset Status)

This has nothing to do with layers.

You can set a config to not allow componets that is being hidden to be saved with the layer status

save_hidden_items_w_status no
