Pattern

Hi folks,
I have a feature that fails when I tried to create a circular pattern using the "axis" option. When I create that same feature on a datum that was created "on-the-fly" at an angle from another datum and use pattern by "dimension" utilizing the angular location of the sketch datum, it works without any problem.
Does anyone know why? This is the first time this has happened and don't understand why it would pattern using one way and not the other. We are using WF2.

Thanks in advance,
jacksaab

jacksaab,

Usually this type of pattern failure occurs because the feature you are patterning crosses an axis (usually the 180/0 axis) and ProE gets a little confused. The 'safe' way to approach the problem is to use the datum plane on the fly

The datum on the fly technique has been around since Pro/E release 1 so they have got it to work mostly. The axis pattern was added at WF1 (I think) so it has only been around about 5 years. Do you think PTC can make something robust in just 5 years?
