PDF creation

Help please?

I have installed adobe to create PDF automatically.
Recently my setup has changes and the drawing only prints scale 1:1 to A4.
All my drawings are bigger than A3 size. Where can I reset the configuration to plot proe drawing to the proper sheet size according to the proe files?

Note: I am using wildfire 2.0

If your drawing does not have any imported images then you should be able to do a File>Save A Copy and in the dialog box select PDF as the type of file.

or the other method which works for both regular drawings as well as drawings with imported images is to plot using the MS Printer Manager. Click on Configure. On the Page tab be sure the size is correct. Printer tab, I do nothing. And on the Model tab be sure that Plot is set to Full Plot and NOT Based on Zoom and that the Scale is set to 1.0

Ok that then OK the Print. You will then see your windows print box where you select which printer you want to print to, select Adobe PDF or what ever your Adobe printer name is and select properties. Layout tab should be set to Landscape, Paper/Quality B/W or Color, your preference and Adobe PDF Settings, be sure that the Adobe PDF Page Size is set to the same size as your drawing.

Then OK the settings and OK the Print.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply. unfortunately all the above did not work for me.
I must have adobe corrupted with pro/e.

I am currently using DXF ouput -> Autocad ->and print to pdf from autocad

The tool bar PDFbutton was very fast and handy to use.

Thank you.

Strange, either method should have given you some form of PDF. I see that there are two config options pdf_plot_config (sets the pcf file) and adobe_distiller (sets the command path to the distiller executible file)

I have always had the best results by printing to the generic postscript printer in Pro/E and then having Acrobat Distiller use the resulting postscript file to make the PDF file. Easy, fast, small files, configurable and reliable. Using MS print manager and/or the PDF icon is more trouble than it's worth.

Dr Gallup,

This is also my prefer method. My current company stored dxf and dwg in their PRD so using dxf ouput is not a big issue.

Thanks,

I tried the PS method Dr and results looked the same and the file size was too. I guess with anything else having to do with Pro/E, it comes down to user preference. I will try the PS method again when I have a drawing with a scanned image on it to see how that turns out. It was kind of nice to RMB on the ps file and select Convert to PDF.

I usually click on the pdf icon to create a .pdf drawing. Above audctrl mentions that this will not save any images (.jpeg). I know that it is possible to make abobe recognize jpeg but I don;t know how. I seen someone else do it before. Does anybody know how?

Thanks in advance,

Omar

Omar,

One method is to plot it and where you select a printer, choose your PDF writer. (See my first post). I haven't tried creating a PDF using the Postscript method that the good Dr. mentions, but the two methods in that first post of mine work for me.

audctrl,
I tried to use your method but I have to play with the x and y offset to get the drawing centered. Do you do this everytime you save a .pdf or do you have another method.
Dr_gallup,
I would really like to set up the method you mention regarding the post script. Could you please help?
Thanks,
Omar

Here is what I use with WF2, it has not changed since R20. This makes the postscript file and sends it to our printer. Of course, you will have to make some changes to paths & printer names. I keep the post script files and just drag & drop them to the Adobe Distiller whenever I want a PDF.

It worked!!!
smiley20.gif
The only problem was that the postscript did not recognize a .jpeg image I had in the drawing. So it never made it into the .pdf file.

Many thanks to Dr_gallup and audctrl

Omar,

Yes, I do have to type in an offset, only because I haven't made a mapkey for it. If I remember correctly, 0,0 is the lower left corner of the drawing border, then any offset is whatever you need outside of that. Like say the location letters and numbers. Our titleblocks happen to be 6 x 6, so the lower left of the drawing is -6x by -6y from the drawing border
