Picture file --> ProE file

Hi all, I hope you've had a good Easter :)

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone had good success with converting mylars to ProE models or drawings. We can have them hardcopies scanned to TIFF or PDF, or any other picture format with at least 300Dpi resolution.

I've
heard that CorelDraw comes with an utility called TRACE that can trace
contours in the picture file and save it to DXF, wchih can be easily
imported into PRoE.

Can anyone confirm that?

Is there a better solution?

Thanks!

As mentioned in an answer to the previously posted question (same topic, other section) Corel can trace and export to DXF.

From what I've gathered around the net there may however be better alternatives. Corel has written Trace primarely in order to get from image file to vector art work, and not with technical drawings in mind. So it will convert boundaries to lines without caring what these should represent. Specialised software will try to recognize dimensions, geometry, text, line weight, ... and translate them as such and may also be better in "understanding" the primitive geometry of lines and arcs that is typical for technical drawings.

So it all depends on your needs.
