<DIV>Hello everyone,</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>We came across a GPL (Free) software called Subversion (SVN). Using it and a Windows batch file we have been having very good luck managing our ProE and other files forour small group (five users).</DIV>

<DIV>I place detailed instructions and links on our website http://www.stdg.us/Administration/DataManagment.htm.</DIV>

Sorry about the confusion ... Now that I re-read my origonal post and try the link it does sound like spam ... apparently I have crossed over to the dark side!

But it's not spam and I do not kow why the first link does not work. Hacks' does work. I'll try again - http://www.stdg.us/Administration/DataManagment.htm.

I just updated the page to add instructions on how to run the server as a service.

I am looking into installing to use Apache web server so the Perl and Python scripts can be used to send notification emails, approval chains, etc.

If you have one sub-folder per assembly
then when you release the assembly you can "Tag" the folder to release
it.

What happens if you have parts that are used in more than one assembly? Are you suggesting that the folders be set up so that the part files for an assembly are below the assembly in the directory structure? Then what would you do for the other assemblies that use that same part?

Our folder structure mimics the BOM structure for each project. If the part is used in more than one place in the assembly tree it is simply left in the folder where it was first used.

We use another repository for library and common parts. When a part or assembly is re-used in a different project it is moved the the common parts repository.

Our Pro/E start batch file creates a search.pro file that encompasses the whole folder tree. The paths to the repositories are hard coded in the config.pro file.

Ihope this helps.
