You can create a surface with zero thickness by using the FILL command, sketch your surface, done. Then use these surfaces to assemble your components.
I couldn`t see your image, but from the sounds of your description I agree with appinmi, sounds like you require the FILL command to create the surface with no thickness.
Once you make your outer surfaces you can offset them and then trim them to make your inner surfaces. Then use these edges to make the thin edge surfaces. Once you have completely sewn up the volume you can make it solid. Alternately, you can make the complete outside shape and make it solid then shell it out.
