Problems with 6DOF connection

I am trying to make a 6DOF connection but I cant set the translations axis.

Do I need to make some config settings?

Do I need some special features in the assembled part? eg point, axis, datum curve.

Is it a limitation in my license maybe?

my experience is that 6DOF constrain aligns itself to the coordinate system that you specify as "assembly item". also notice that this type of constrain is meant to be used in conjuction with servo motors. this means that you need to lock all DOFs except the translation axis that you need, using position=0 servo motors. 6DOF constrains are only solved when you run motion analysis.this means that they don't work when you drag components.
here's a topic about 6DOF constraints: http://www.mcadcentral.com/proe/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=40 999&PN=1

For me I need to be able to move my part like a stik on a manuel gear box.

Limited by angles forward/right/left.....

The 6DOF looks like the perfect constrain for that.

I usually do that sort of thing using two pin joints forming a gimbal mechanism.
