ProE tips and tricks

I thought I would start a discussion on some modeling tips
and tricks that might not be common knowledge, but might
help in productivity. I did a little search and did not
find a similar topic.

I have one tip - while using the mouse scroller to zoom in
or out, press control key to do a fast (coarse) zoom and
press the shift key to do.

Please share your tips even though you may feel that they
are common knowledge.

sorry, did not have the complete post there.

use shift key with scroller to do a fine zoom.

I have one related to the sketcher as well - if you want to
disable ALL constraints while drawing a particular item,
press the SHIFT key and draw.

What version are you using? This is not the behavior in
WF3.

use a coordinate system as a projection reference in a
distance measurement to get an xyz breakdown of the
measurement.

If you are adding screws or dowels in an assembly and the parts don't have patterned holes. You can select one of the screws or dowels that you have already assembled in the model tree, then upper pull down menu...Edit ....Repeat.
You will get a dialog box....click align...then click add....pick a center line in one of the other holes and it will insert the screw or dowel....you can pick multiple holes in the model and it continue to add the screw or dowel. Not something you need every day.....but it comes in handy when you do.

kenppy, you can use any screen capture software that can export the recorded animation as a GIF file. i used camtasia.

Hre is a partial list of my QnD (Quick n Dirty) video tutorials. I need to update the list as there are some recent ones not on there. Most were in response to some question here on MCAD.

They are self contained videos in SWF format. The file sizes range from 1 MB to upto 26 MB. You can save them to your local computer and then open them in an internet browser.

Enjoy!!

jsantangelo, thanks for sharing these tips, any chance you could post the files, I'd like to study them closer.

nice videos James. thanks for posting.

I saw how you eliminated a singularity in one of those
surfacing videos.

Design Engine is offering up free beer and pizza and a look at Rhino 3d T-Spline design tools. http://www.tsplines.com Come and check out the Design Engine Motorcycle Garage (actually a loft) across from Design engine's Suite 605 over in Suite 606... bring tires and wheels and we will change them and balance them free.

http://proetools.com/blog/t-splines-...es-rhino-class < Rhino can be used to develop motorcycle parts and stylized surfaces such as faring and other stylized geometry. It is used heavily in the product design industry... and often remolded using Pro/ENGINEER

We are located in the west loop of Downtown Chicago at Randolph and Green (near the new Haymarket Microbrew) There will be a bunch of motorcycle people so consider riding your bike but be careful with the beer...

After wards Ill be doing much of the same modeling challenges using Pro/ENGINEER... after the rhino guys leave of course ;) Talking about tips and tricks that is...

You ever going to record and share some of these for those that are not in the immediate vicinity but would love to attend?

I didn't keep all the files used for the videos. Just a few. I need to update the links and add more videos. When I do I will also post what ever files I do have.

Thanks. No problem. If people had not shared their knowledge on this forum then I wouldn't be able to do as much in Pro/e, lol.
