purge all but that latest 3 versions..

I'd like to know is it possible to purge all but the last 3 (or 2 or 4 or whatever)versions of a part in a directory (possibly including sub-dirs)


is this possible using the purge command or third part software - not intralink, not windchill - something cheap and only for purging


Any ideas?
