ProE provides the ability to flip the normal of a quilt. what is the use of this feature? of course it changes the default direction of offset surfaces and thicken surface features but i'm looking for a better use case that really makes sense.
I'm not sure if this is a really good case, but sometimes a surface merge will fail because the one prior to it flips directions on you. You could insert a flip normal of a quilt to get your merges back on track. I have played around with this idea, but have not proved out the value in it.
I have used it in the past on development models for the reason stated by spidernate.
Because the models kept being changed for various reasons, sometimes a merge would fail, which would have a trickle down effect. So flip normal, and most of the time everything else was ok (most of the time!).
