questions about the backup

weichengatech

New member
i want to backup my works.

now i save my recenly works, which include (prt, drw files) to another folder.

will prt and drw files still have realtions? in other words, if i
change the new prt file, will the drw file automatically updates the
dimension etc.?

if not, what i can do for this case?

thank you very much,

Jack

Hi,

You cannot save a file in different directory or you cannot save a copy with the same name.So allways take a backup(File<Backup) when you are taking a backup in a different folder.Make sure that you take the backup of the drawing.

Hey Jack,

I am not sure if this is what you are asking but if you want to rename your part file and keep the connection with the assocaited drawing file you need to use the rename function within Pro/Engineer (File->Rename) within the part file window WHILE the drawing is open or in session. The part will automatically rename on the drawing(s) and you can then change the name of the drawing if you want through the same Rename function.

Hope this helps. If its not what you are looking for, reply.

If you are referring to manually copy/paste project files to another folder ie. project_backup, and asking if modification of parts in original project folder, would affect drawing files in backup folder, then answer is yes. If you add something in part, this would be visible in drawing but of course there wouldn't be new dimension because you didn't add them in drawing. Also if you delete something in part, this would be also deleted in old drawing.

Note: this only works if your working directory is set to project folder, and you open drawing files from backup directory!

But this is really messy because in one point you don't know where are your latest files, and if someone works after you he wouldn't know where latest files are. Also you might encounter this way famous bug: The drawing is most recent then model, when drawing mess up, and it is no longer usable > you must create new drawing.

I suggest that you always work in current project directory, and manually backup files to backup directory. If you need old files, then manualy transfer them from backup directory to current project directory.
Also you have in ProE, as deepakbhat_nie said File > Backup option, but I have never use it soI can't say is it good or bad.

Hope this helps
