Questions on my goals

I have only posted here a few times. I have never used pro-e but plan on it.

Anyway let me tell you a few thngs about myself before I get to my questions. I graduated Pennco Tech for Mechanical Design/Drafting. I am attending Community College that has a Mechanical Engineering Program. I have been using Autocadd for 4 years. I just landed a job that is more Mechanical/Electrical than the one I have know. (my reason for taking it). This job is going to teach me Inventor and Mechanical Desktop. I am very happy abou this job.

My goal is to stay at this job for 5 years. Then I will learn pro-e. Hopefully With my experience and A.S.S. in Mechanical Engineering I will not ever take a job less then $25 an hour. Then after I get a few years of Pro-e experience I will look for a higher paying job.

My questions.

1. Do my goals sound realistic? If not why?

2. How did you learn pro-e? Where? What do you do at you current job?

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

i also went thru a 2 year school and received my A.A.S. i assume A.S.S. is a typo

our curriculum included autocad 2 semesters inventor 1 semester pro-e 1 semester

I was lucky enough to intern for a small firm that trained, sold, and designed in

pro-e, he also worked for PTC

http://www.engineeringinnovation.com/

Since i worked for him he let me sit in on his training classes for free "375 aday or 1500 for the week" yikes!!!!

of those the 1 i would say was the worst waste of my time was inventor

do a search on monster.com and see how many jobs are out there versus pro-e

I think mechanical desktop is outdated nowadays no offense

something to consider for your future

in my opinion inventor is for small weld shops that work with flat stuff

the animation is cool and easy but so is the free download from lego.com

Man you are lucky!!! What is your A.A.S in? I took the inventor job because not many jobs offer to teach you any programs. I have been looking for a job that teaches Solidworks or Pro-E. Can't find one. Also this job gives me mechanical experience with sheetmetal. There are some inventor jobs but not many. They pay around 22-26 an hour.

Pro-e WILDFIREis definetly a good choice as far as finding a job. Catia V5 and UGare among a few others. If you plan on getting a decent design job, knowing a 3D program will be a must. You need to get yourself a student edition of a modeling program and teach yourself. Your pay goals with Pro-e knowledge for starting out is pretty accurate atleast in the midwest. That will depend on if you can pass the typical Pro-e test that most companies give.

I graduated from Mechanical Drafting & Design also . My school offered me training in ProE and SolidWORKS ( http://www.clcmn.edu/drafting/). Right now i plan attending University of North Dakota for Mechanical Engineering.UND

I think your goals are great! An Engineer that knows ProE well is a killer Engineer
