Redefining after a Replace

Am I doing something wrong? I am forced to redefine nearly every part in an assembly when I replace an assembly. This seems too time consuming, shouldn't the definitions translate? I also have to redefine the parts in the new assembly, why isn't Pro/E bringing these definitions with the assembly? Anybody have any ideas or suggestions to make this process run smoother?

If you replace one instance with another you should have few problems.

If you want to replace one component for a different component you should create an functional interchange assembly to define the common references.

In the new assembly that is replacing the old, do all the components that have to be redefined have common references that are failing? That is to say, Do they depend on some placement reference that is not part of the assembly?
