Reduce File Size

Hi All,

Iam having a engine model(it is a mix of imported features and features) size is around 20,000MB.

I have to reduce the the file size to 10MB.Can anyone help me in performing this task.

FYI, iam using PROE_FoundationAdv.Only Shrinkwrap is getting highlited.

It is painstaking to select all the surfaces(around 100000 surfaces).

Will be glad to see ur responses.

Thanks in Advance,

Raghu.

Create 2 new parts in the assembly and assemble them by default constraint:

assemblyname_merge.prt

assemblyname.prt
[/list]

In the assembly click Edit - Component Operations - Merge.

Select the assemblyname_merge.prt and click OK.

Then select all the reference parts (by using [Ctrl]), which you finally want in your simplified part and click OK.

Then click Done, till all chosen parts are merged.

In the assembly activate the 2nd created part assemblyname.prt.

Click Insert - Shared Data - Copy Geometry, deactivate the Published geometry only button and select a surface of the merged part, then RMB - Solid Surfaces and finish the feature.

Select the created quilt and solidify it by using Edit - Solidify and hope that the file size is smaller.

Hi Raghu,

Suppress all the components before saving the assembly file. It will definitely reduce the file size. This is useful when thepurpose of reduction in size is to exhange the data.

By the way, what kind of system you have used to create a Pro E file of 20 GB size?

20GB to 10 MB?

My friend, I have absolutely no idea how you'll be able to pull this through...

However, I sincerely wish you the best of luck!!

Best regards!

Supressing features comes in handy. I've done that with assemblies before. In the assembly drag the insert mode up to the first component. Then in the each of the parts drag it up to the first feature. When you send it the the person on the other end know that they have to cancel the insert mode or resume last and all parts and subassemblies (bottom up in this case)

20GB to 10MB? yes, Ithink this will be possible usinga layer, just create a layer and include all the features like solid geometry and quilt into that layer then hide and save status then save your model, there's no need to use insert and suppress command just to minimize the file size, utilizing the layer will do the trick. maybe few users know that hiding layers will minimize the file size. using insert and suppress feature will take a lot of time to resume all the features in your model. just try to use layer. hope it helps
